African University Scholarships
As every country and every university offers scholarship programs nowadays, we’ll find out the universities with scholarships and programs that are great opportunities for Africans to study but cannot afford study expenses. African Universities & Colleges Scholarships for African Students.
1. The Dolika Banda Scholarship Programs at African Leadership University
This scholarship is given to Zambian nationals who want to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at the African Leadership University in Rwanda or Mauritius. The prize covers all tuition costs.
2. African Leadership University (Rwanda): The Mandela Centennial Scholarship Programme
Scholarship affording full tuition, travel, lodging, and a stipend to cover food and other living expenses for African Leadership University students in Kigali, Rwanda. (It will only cover tuition fees for Rwandans living in Kigali.) The scholarship will select 100 excellent young Africans from low-income families to attend ALU Kigali. So, the Graça Machel Trust and the Mandela Institute for Development Studies have collaborated with ALU (MINDS).
3. Jim Ovia Foundation Leaders Scholarship, Ashesi University (Ghana) OR Covenant University (Nigeria)
This scholarship collaborates between the Jim Ovia Foundation and the Africa-America Institute. It pledged a generous $2 million donation funds on behalf of the Foundation by Mr. Jim Ovia, Chairman of the Jim Ovia Foundation, at AAI’s 33rd Annual Awards Gala in September 2017. This award will provide comprehensive scholarships to high-achieving students from low-income families, including tuition, housing, and board.
Other Scholarships in Africa and Abroad
1. Ashinaga Africa Initiative:
They were established in 2014 to empower a generation of future leaders to contribute to Sub-Saharan Africa’s long-term development. Students receive an international university education, comprehensive assistance throughout their studies, and the opportunity to return home and be positive change agents.
However, applicants must have lost one or both parents; have completed 12 years of education ( Class first or primary and SSC secondary school) within the last two years; have an outstanding academic performance in high school, and were among the top students in their class, and be willing to return home or to Sub-Saharan Africa after graduating from university.
2. Wells Mountain Initiative Scholarships:
International scholarships are based on the need for students from impoverished countries to attend university both at home and abroad. WMI gives education scholarships to highly motivated and ambitious young people pursuing undergraduate degrees in economically depressed areas. WMI Scholars pursue degrees in fields ranging from medicine to engineering.
Community service is an essential part of the scholarship program. To remain a WMI Scholar, all scholars must volunteer for 100 hours per year. WMI scholarships range from USD 300 to USD 3000 per year and are awards throughout the recipient’s undergraduate study. The average scholarship award is USD 1500.
3. International Higher Education Scholarship Program (for South African, Ivoirian, and eSwatini people only)
Each scholarship recipient receives a full scholarship from the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), including return flights, housing, tuition and credit fees, insurance, textbook costs, and a monthly stipend.
